INTRODUCTION TO BEEKEEPING COURSE
This is an introduction to beekeeping for complete beginners, to develop your keen interest to learn more about the extraordinary honeybee and the fundamentals of beekeeping.
It will give an overview of the honeybee colony, some understanding of the role and requirements of a Beekeeper and provide information to help you make an informed decision, if you wish to progress further.
Learning Outcomes:
- To explain the merits of keeping bees e.g rewards, challenges and commitments.
- To identify the honeybee colony members, their respective differences and explain how the colony work together as a social group.
- To understand the honeybee lifecycle in relation to seasonal changes and outline some of the activities undertaken by beekeepers.
- To recognise and compare the components of common hive types and describe the everyday ‘kit’ required to keep bees.
- To identify the support and learning opportunities available from your local association, the British Beekeeping Association and online resources.
Course cost: £130.
This includes a recommended core textbook ((BBKA Guide to Beekeeping 2nd Edn), local association membership and support materials.
In addition, we offer support to help you apply the course theory into practice when inspecting our Teaching Apiary hives during the beekeeping season and offer a Whatsapp mentor support group to new members, once they have bees.
